The Benedict News has printed through wars, pandemics, our school’s closing and reopening. It is our great pleasure to continue with this rich tradition in mind this year. Available both in print and online for over a century, we are the student-run, award-winning publication serving the St. Benedict’s Prep community. Thank you to the students, alumni, donors and friends who continue to support us.
BN welcomes back Jayden Forniel (SY), who served as Editor-in-Chief of the Benedict News last year and Felicia Abbass (UD1), our Co-Editor-in-Chief. The Benedict News is both excited for this year and the new era of Gray Bee journalism coming your way!
Two years ago, the Journalism Department was unfortunately discontinued. This year, the Benedict News is equipped with four new moderators, paired with respective News, Variety, Opinion/Editorial and Sports sections to provide the mentorship and experience necessary to facilitate high-quality student news coverage.
Writing helps to expand one’s thoughts and emotions in a creative way. Writing also increases vocabulary and information literacy, a crucial skill as students graduate into an increasingly more digital world. These new skills will allow us to have a more positive impact on our community and beyond.
Through the guidance of our moderators, new and returning staff writers will immerse themselves in all aspects of journalistic writing. With enhanced support and resources, our student journalists now have the tools needed to produce authentic pieces and provide inspiration for our community.
With student leadership, faculty support and a committed team of student journalists in place, The Benedict News only needs one more thing: participation from you, our dedicated readers. As we pursue fair, effective coverage of our community this year, we encourage respectful engagement, debate and feedback from our audience. This act of collaboration will help our team grow and the community flourish, which is something we wholeheartedly value. Thank you.
