Gray Bees Varsity Soccer’s Streak Continues
The Gray Bees Varsity Soccer Team defeated St. Peter’s Preparatory School of Jersey City on Tuesday, Oct. 8, in a 6-0 game, continuing an unbeaten record.
The first half looked to promise a victory with the Gray Bees going into halftime with a lead of three goals. Preston Rushmore SY scored the first goal after he headed the ball to the back of the net. The team continued to keep the same momentum after this, with Rhys Armstrong UD2 kicking in a goal after Israel Neto SY played a ball from out wide left to his feet.
The Gray Bees tried many offensive plays, but could not finish their chances as they would have liked, team members said, until Zemi Rodriguez UD2 received the a through ball and finished.
The starting team lineup played the first ten minutes of the second half to allow more team members to play.
“It’s always good to get the people that haven’t been playing as much as the starters a chance to play,” said Team Captain Lui Chaves. “They deserve it as they have been supporting and motivating the starters all season.”
The Gray Bee players entering the last 25 minutes of the game made a massive impact, continuing with the same goals and momentum as the starting team. Gray Bees Tony Eboah UDII, Jamar Rickets SY, and Demi Amigun SY each scored in the last 20 minutes.
“It was an amazing feeling getting my first goal of the season but it wasn’t just for me it was for my team,” Amigun said.
Tomorrow, the Gray Bees Varsity Soccer Team will play New Brunswick away from home. The players will be hoping to continue their unbeaten run and retain their top spot.
