Access Opera: Sign up Today!
Imagine sitting at the Metropolitan Opera House — a place known for its heavy ticket prices — and watching a theatre performance unlike any other you’ve watched.
This is exactly the opportunity that is being offered to SBP students.
This coming Wednesday (3/6/19), 10 SBP students will attend a dress rehearsal performance for the opera “Das Rheingold” at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City, as part of a program that SBP participates in called “Access Opera.”
Previously, this program was open to a select few students, but it is now open to all those interested who sign up.
Many students have benefited from partaking in the program, even if they had no prior experience with opera.
“Exposure is important,” said Ms. Patricia Flynn, who advises the Drama Guild. “Even if you decide you don’t like it, at least you would know what it is.”
In the last couple of years, students have attended the following operas: “La Fanciulla Del West,” “Carmen,” “La Traviata,” and “The Magic Flute.”
Jesus Paulino SY shared his experience at an opera last year. “The opera was an incredible opportunity for me,” he said. “I love music with every fiber of my being.”
He believes that “branch(ing) into unexplored territory is something everybody who listens to music should try.”
Several other students have been inspired by the pure work it is to put up an opera. You might, too.
If you are interested in attending, please email Ms. Flynn before Wednesday: [email protected]
