In the first game of the season, the varsity basketball team trumped Academy New Church 72-48 in Bryn Athyn, PA. After a sluggish first quarter, full of missed open shots and lethargic rebounding, the Gray Bees held a slender six point lead. However, St. Benedict’s quickly turn the game around and extended their lead to 26 points before the half. Shots, particularly threes, started falling in bunches and the lead quickly grew.

Junior guard David Beatty, a Philadelphia native, stood out in his home state. He scored 29 points on 9 of 15 shots. David was especially lethal from the three point line on 6 of 10 shots. He also contributed five steals to the defensive end. Senior Bourama Sidebe also had an impressive performance. The 6’11 center was active on the boards on both sides of the court, grabbing eight defensive and eight offensive rebounds. He ended the game with 17 points and 16 rebounds.

The varsity basketball team will travel to Baltimore, MD this weekend to play in the Shirts vs Skins Classic.
