In a one-sided match against Saint Peter’s Prep in Jersey City on Oct. 14, the Gray Bees cruised to an effortless 11-0 victory. What senior Joe Alba called, “New Jersey’s rivalry game,” wasn’t that; Benedict’s dominated.

From the kick off to the final minute, the Gray Bees were on the offensive, scoring in bunches. The overwhelmingly dominant performance came after a challenging match the previous week against Salesianum. It was clear the Gray Bees wanted to make a statement.

When asked about the game and the team’s effort, senior captain Esteban Hidalgo said, “From the start, we were determined and wanted to show who we really were, and I was proud of the team’s effort!”

Six different Gray Bees scored during the game: Victor Villagomez ’16 with four, Esteban Hidalgo ’16 with two, Mickey George ’17 with two, and Joseph Alba ’16, Louis Silva ’16, and Fabio DeSousa ’16 each with one respectively. Most goals were the products of great passing and skilled finishing.

“It was the best we played all year,” said Esteban.

The route drew to a close early as the referee decided to end the game about midway through the second half. The victory moves the Gray Bees one step closer to their goal of repeating a national championship. Currently, the team sits at 11-0 and continues its quest for the National Championship against Walt Whitman in Maryland.

Editor’s note: Saint Benedict’s defeated Walt Whitman 4-1 on Oct. 16. The Gray Bees face Delran at NJIT on Saturday Oct. 24.
