“I left my other job at the Youth Retreat Center in Kearny, NJ and I used to come to mass at St. Mary’s Church,” Ms. Furka said.
At the Youth Retreat Center, which is the largest youth retreat center in Kearny, NJ, Ms. Furka held the position of Facility Coordinator. She helped make sure the daily activities at the center ran smoothly and also helped run the Girl Scouts.
One day after Mass at St. Mary’s Church, Fr. Edwin asked her to be the new Administrative Assistant since the previous assistance, Erin Sweeney took a new job as Director of Strategic Initiatives. Ms. Furka started her service on Veteran’s Day, November 11.
Ms. Furka’s position is very similar to the job that Ms. Sweeney held.
“I am answering phone calls, setting up parent teacher conferences, organizing Fr. Edwin’s appointments and activities, and aiding teachers by distributing mail,” Ms. Furka stated.
Actually, Ms. Furka said that her job is challenging.
“This job is difficult, especially learning all the people at the school and figuring out who is who.”
When she is not working part time as Fr. Edwin’s assistant, she sells homes as a Real Estate agent.
Despite the challenges, she enjoys the environment she works in.
“The kids here are very well mannered, very pleasant, and respectful. They are a great group.” Ms. Furka said.
